Spraying the Shingled Roof of the Old Faithful Inn
Weds., Sept. 7, 1988
(NPS Photo)

These efforts may well have played a large
part in saving the Old Faithful Inn. When the
North Fork fire stormed through not long after
this photo was taken, embers alighted on the
Inn's shingled roof. Some of the Inn's
employees helped in the effort by climbing on
the roof and dashing out flames with brooms
and other objects.
Perhaps an even greater force played a
part in saving the Old Faithful Inn as the
direction of the wind suddenly changed soon
before reaching the building, sending the
firestorm on a less destructive course.
