Clepsydra Geyser, located in
the Fountain Paint Pot area of
the Lower Geyser Basin, is
considered a nearly constant
geyser, erupting from four
vents. Typical splashing
eruptions are 10-15 feet in all
directions, while more
powerful "wild phase"
eruptions can reach 20-40
feet. The blue pool in the
foreground is Jelly Geyser.
A morning view of the
steaming terraces of
Mammoth Hot Springs, as
seen from the cabin area.
These cabins were
designed in the late 1930s
by Robert Reamer, architect
of the Old Faithful Inn.
Looking through the windows
of the map room at Mammoth
Hot Springs Hotel to the type
of  tally-ho stagecoach used in
Yellowstone's preautomobile
days for park tourists.
This colorful terrace at Mammoth
Hot Springs, as seen in a 1986
photo, is now inactive and a
lifeless gray in appearance. But
the springs change continually,
and inactive areas may see
renewed activity in the future.
