Architect Robert Reamer designed Yellowstone's Canyon Hotel, which opened in 1911. When  Canyon Village, its modern replacement, opened in 1957, guests flooded instead to the venerable old hotel, to the dismay of "Mission 66" planners. In 1959 Canyon Hotel and its furnishings were sold for $25 salvage. This once-grand hotel burned under what some consider mysterious conditions in August 1960.
