LAFAYETTE MARKLEY
Lafayette Markley was born in Somerset, Co., Pa. on Aug. 9, 1823--died Aug. 24, 1904, and is
buried in Walnut Hills Cemetery, New Hampshire, Ohio (this information is from a page dated
Aug.28, 1904 of a diary kept by Lafayette's grandson Rev. Franklin G. Markley). Lafayette was the
son of Peter and Mary or Polly (Kurtz) Markley.
Lafayette moved with his family to Ashland, Ohio in 1824.

Lafayette was married twice:    
    A) He was married to Elizabeth Myers (no known information except she died before 1855)
         Lafayette and Elizabeth had two children:
            1) Lovina Markley Duff (Capt. John W. ) born Jan. 9, 1846--died April, 1876
            2) Olrando born 1848--died Nov. 1920

    B) He married Mary Ann Runyan (or Runion) June 20,1855. Mary Ann was born June 19,
        1833 and died Sept.15, 1924. She is buried in Walnut Hills Cemetery, New Hampshire, Ohio.
         Lafayette and Mary Ann had the following children:
            1) Wilbur R Markley born Aug. 28, 1856--died Sept.11, 1910
            2) Catherine Jennett (Kate) Markley Alexander (James) born Apr.14, 1858--
                died Sept.11, 1910
            3) Finley Philander Markley born Jan.29,1861--died March 4,1937
            4) Mattie Markley Andrews born June 1,1867--died Dec.14,1930
            5) Isabel (no known information except she died at 11 yrs).

NOTES:
   1) Wilbur married Ida Murry Jan. 29, 1880. Ida died Feb. 22, 1880.
   2) Wilbur married Sarah Amanda Colvin Nov. 20, 1883. Wilbur, Sarah, and their son Hugh are
       buried in Belle Center Cemetery, Belle Center, Logan Co., Ohio.
   3) Catherine (Kate) Markley married James Alexander Dec.14, 1883
   4) Mattie Markley married John Andrews March 17, 1886

Lafayette Markley was used by Grandson Rev.
Franklin G. Markley, born Aug.25,1885. It was
donated to Ashland County Historical Society,
Ashland, Ohio on May 21, 1998 by Lafayette's
great-grandson Franklin G. Markley, Jr. of
Canton, Ohio.
